Our story

CO2 Radical was founded in 2021 by David Berger, an experienced rural emergency doctor, and his son Tom, a medical student in Melbourne at the height of COVID-19.

As frontline medical professionals, they watched with concern as the airborne transmission of COVID-19 was poorly understood and widely ignored — leaving people needlessly exposed in poorly ventilated classrooms, waiting rooms, offices and homes.

David and Tom discovered the Aranet4 CO2 monitor and were so impressed — by its accuracy, simplicity and build quality — that they began importing them directly from Latvian manufacturer Saftehnika.

Why monitor CO2?

CO2 is the invisible by-product of breathing. As it builds up in a room, so does everything else people exhale — including airborne viruses like COVID-19, influenza and RSV. High CO2 also directly impairs concentration and decision-making; studies show cognitive performance can drop by up to 50% in poorly ventilated spaces.

A CO2 monitor is a real-time smoke alarm for invisible risk. Below 600ppm: fresh air. Above 800ppm: time to act — open a window, create a through draft or leave.
